In the visit that John Paul II made to the Opera Don Guanella in Via Aurelia Antica, in 1982, he made this wish to us: "It takes a special charity, it takes a heroic charity to fall in love with those wounded, those retarded, those spastics …It is easy to  fall in love with visible beauty; it's a difficult thing to fall in love with a lack  of beauty, to discover the beauty beneath its lack, beneath its opposite. For this, a particularly acute, especially penetrating, especially great, heroic charity is needed. Here is his way, here is your way. You follow  Don Guanella. You follow him as his sons and as his daughters; you follow him as "Guanellians" and try to imitate him, to make the same discovery and to discover his path every day. May God, through the intercession of Blessed Guanella, grant each Guanellian such a "falling in love with the heart"
