Guanellian Museum - Don Guanella Opera
Guanellian Museum

The new “Don Luigi Guanella” Museum was created in 2008 around the rooms where Don Luigi Guanella lived during his stay in Como (1886 – 1915), at the behest of the two Guanellian Congregations (the Daughters of Santa Maria della Provvidenza and the Servants of Charity) as part of the celebrations for the first centenary of the religious profession of the Founder. The institution aims to represent a center of religious and cultural appeal to spread the knowledge and charisma of don Guanella. The Museum is spread over two floors:

THE GROUND FLOOR, in addition to the reception and the multimedia room, presents the man Luigi Guanella inserted in his historical context, his relationship with God, seen as a tender and provident Father and his industrious charity towards the poorest and most abandoned, which led him 1886 to found the Casa Divina Provvidenza in Como, the first of his institutes. There is also talk of the relationship between Don Guanella and other great personalities of his contemporaries such as Don Giovanni Bosco, Don Luigi Orione, Msgr. Andrea Ferrari, Msgr. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, as well as with the Popes of the time, in particular with Pius X.

ON THE SECOND FLOOR instead, the fundamental nucleus of the Museum can be visited: the original room and study of don Guanella, carefully restored, which lead into a vast hall in which the great Guanellian family is presented (Daughters of Santa Maria della Provvidenza, Servants of Charity, Cooperators , Guanellian Lay Movement), with which the charism has spread throughout the world.

A space is also reserved for some fundamental figures for the development of the Guanellian Work, including Blessed Sister Chiara Bosatta and Sister Marcellina, co-foundress of the Women's Congregation, Msgr. Aurelio Bacciarini and don Leonardo Mazzucchi, the first two successors of don Guanella at the head of the male Congregation.
