Review

Don Luigi Guanella (1842-1915), blessed and founder of two religious congregations (the Daughters of Santa Maria della Provvidenza and the Servants of Charity, and alongside them the Guanellian lay cooperators) belongs to that group of Italian priests who between the nineteenth century and the twentieth century began charitable works aimed at tackling the problems of new poverty, in the era that preceded and accompanied the country's industrial development. The name of Luigi Guanella is synonymous with love for people who are marked by suffering in any way or live in situations of marginalization. His testimony of the living Gospel is also a beautiful page of theology since his choices and the good he has done reveal the heart of the Christian faith and affirm the truth about man, giving comfort and hope to all men, believers and non-believers.
