Review

The life of don Luigi Guanella, to get to know his extraordinary figure a few months after the beatification which will take place on 23 October 2011.

Friend of saints, bishops, cardinals and popes; writer, founder of kindergartens, homes for the elderly and disabled, parish works, religious congregations - the Daughters of Saint Mary of Providence and the Servants of Charity - as well as church builder, beatified by Paul VI, Don Guanella will be proclaimed a saint by Benedict XVI on 23 October 2011.

No one, at the beginning of his apostolate, believed him. Everyone thought he was a "hot-headed" priest who had to be used with tongs. A little too intransigent, very controversial, little tolerant, irrepressible.

He chose to raise the condition of the people by going to the urban suburbs, to villages lost in the mountains, to the suburbs of large cities such as Rome, Milan and even Chicago. The ultimate goal of his mission was to elevate each person "to celestial greatness".
