Born in Riese (Treviso) on 30 June 1870.
Died in Fiuggi (Frosinone) July 29, 1935.
Ordained a priest in 1893. Appointed chaplain in Castelfranco, he was archpriest of Possagno from 1902 to 1913, and then canon of the chapter and vicar of the cathedral of Treviso. Son of Giuseppe Sarto's sister, he periodically went to Rome to visit his uncle the Pontiff who never wanted to call him permanently to avoid appearing nepotistic. Instead, it was Benedict XV who called him in 1914 to Rome as canon of St. Peter's basilica.
On 21 March 1915, he celebrated his first communion mass in the parish of S. Giuseppe al Trionfale on the occasion of the patron saint's day, arousing great enthusiasm for his words «sweet and affectionate, impregnated with the Eucharistic perfume». He returned immediately afterwards to the Trionfale to preach the month of May with words "fluid and full of holy anointing".
