Born in Naples on October 19, 1873.
Died in Como on May 11, 1954.

Ordained priest for the diocese of Como, where he had moved for his father's career, in 1896, he was appointed spiritual bursar of the Bertolini benefice in Morbegno (SO). Vicar of S. Donnino in Como, from July 1901 to 1916, during that period he collaborated with and later directed the newspaper "La Vita del Popolo", a weekly of the Italian People's Party. Provost of Sant'Agata in Como from December 1915, in 1934 he was appointed domestic prelate by Pius XI "for merits acquired in parish ministry". «A most worthy priest, a most noble parish priest, an impeccable writer, an emotional and touching speaker», he held important offices in the diocese such as those of pro-synodal judge, visitor in the pastoral visits of Msgr. Pagani, parish priest consultor, president of the council of urban parish priests, member of the council for seminaries and for the discipline of the clergy, member of the juridical-canonical council for extraordinary affairs of the diocese of Como, administrative councilor and then president of the ecclesiastical house of Valduce.

An upright, learned, distinguished priest with a somewhat reserved character, he received one day from Don Guanella the good-natured proposal to join his followers. Upon the announcement of the Lombard pilgrimage to Rome for the inauguration of the *church of S. Giuseppe al Trionfale, Don Cachat published in the "valorous" *"Vita del Popolo" a very laudatory article on the person of Don Guanella, "humble priest who renews without noise the prodigies of the saints», «lovable exploiter of every good energy». Don Guanella later wrote to him to thank him for the "beautiful heart" and "beautiful mind" placed in the drafting of the article whose only defect was that it was "too laudatory". When Don Luigi died, he published a moving article, reproduced by Don Mazzucchi in his biography.
