Born in San Zenone degli Ezzelini (Treviso) on February 26, 1851.
Died in Piacenza on 18 September 1920.

After completing his studies in the Treviso seminary, he was ordained a priest in 1873. He later graduated in mathematics and physics, obtained a qualification in natural sciences and a new degree in philosophy in 1877 at the University of Padua. He then carried out teaching duties in the Treviso seminary, until Pius X elected him bishop of Piacenza on 15 September 1905, after the death of Msgr. Scalabrini.

On the occasion of the translation of the body of Msgr. *Giovanni Battista Scalabrini from the cemetery to the cathedral of Piacenza, Don Guanella wrote biographical notes on the friendly bishop, often quoting the words of his successor who defined him as an "august bishop who in himself brings together all the virtues and greatness of his ancestors".
