Born in Milan on April 1, 1837.

Died in Milan on September 26, 1902.

 

Ordained a priest on June 2, 1860, he was appointed Provost of Sant'Alessandro and then first of the honorary canons of the Milan Metropolitan. In 1891 he became primicerio and the following year archdeacon of the same Metropolitan. Highly esteemed by Msgr. *Luigi Nazari of Calabiana, who nominated him as his vicar and sole heir, was confirmed by card. *Andrea Carlo Ferrari who asked for him, as his auxiliary bishop, the episcopal title of Samos, conferred on him on May 21, 1894, then changed to that of Famagusta on April 24, 1897. He was consecrated in Rome by Cardinal Ferrari himself on May 24 1894.

 

«In the session of August 3, under the Honorary Presidency of Mons. Mantegazza Vicar General of the Diocese, representative of His Exc. M. Archbishop, and under the effective presidency of our Paganuzzi of more than Italian fame in the defense and promulgation of the Catholic maxim, Priests and lay people were gathered in good numbers to discuss the principles and norms to be held in the field of Catholic committees for the development and progress of true feeling and right action". Welcomed by Don Guanella, Monsignor Mantegazza celebrated the "communion" mass on 18 April 1895 for the inauguration of the shelter of Sant'Ambrogio ad Nemus.

On 27 October 1898 Don Guanella wrote to him to ask for the faculty to bless an ancient fresco depicting the Crucifix, restored at the entrance to the ancient convent of Sant'Ambrogio ad Nemus, a faculty granted with a rescript from the bishop himself.
