Born in Rome on December 16, 1869.
Died in La Paz (Bolivia) on January 25, 1921.
Ordained a priest on 1 April 1893, he completed his theological studies in the Roman seminary and his juridical studies in the seminary of Sant'Apollinare. Rector of the Lombard seminary of Santi Carlo e Ambrogio in Rome, on 26 October 1908, he was hired as a study assistant among the staff of the new Congregation for Religious established by the Wise council. On 28 July 1913 he was elected bishop of Ceneda and ordained in Rome by card. Gaetano De Lai on the following 19 October. Promoted titular archbishop of Tire on 8 May 1917, he was sent as apostolic interuncio to Bolivia where he died, seized with typhoid fever while carrying out the pastoral visit of the most disadvantaged Bolivian regions.
Msgr. Caroli appears frequently mentioned in the letters that Don Guanella sent on 24 and 25 September 1909 to the bishop of Lugano, Msgr. * Alfredo Peri-Morosini, to arrange the details of his arrival for the * parties in Roveredo. Don Guanella insisted that the Ticino prelate bring Monsignor Caroli with him, whom he had probably met in Rome, given the role of this priest in the *Lombard seminary and in the Congregation of Religious precisely in the years in which Don Guanella obtained the decree of praise for his men's institution. «Divine Providence», extending her best wishes for his episcopal election, greeted him calling him «illustrious and worthy friend». As bishop of Ceneda, then, Msgr. Caroli manifested the deep pain with which she learned of Don Guanella's serious illness, assuring her prayers for the sick man.
