Born in Gan (France) on October 1, 1857.
Died in Rome on October 3, 1909.
Taking his first vows on 7 September 1878, he was ordained a priest on 3 June 1882. The first years of his apostolate saw him as a professor in the Betharramite colleges of the diocese of Bayonne (Oloron and Betharram); in 1888 his superiors directed him to the field of popular missions, where he distinguished himself for ease of expression and intense human relationships. Expelled from France in 1903, after a brief stay in Lesve in Belgium, in 1904 he reached Traona where, with his community confreres, he evangelized the Valtellina by providing spiritual aid to the starving populations of God. He died prematurely in Rome, in the residence of the Angel Guardian, called there to preach a spiritual retreat to the community.
Don Guanella, bound by bonds of friendship with the Betharramite community of Traona, must certainly have known this religious. In his letters to his nephew, don * Costantino Guanella, he recommended that he make use of the help of the French fathers for his ministry.
