Among the governing bodies, the General Chapter is the supreme authority in the Congregation, exercised in accordance with the constitutions. It represents the entire Institute and constitutes its principal sign of unity and charity (const.112)
His primary task is to faithfully guard the charism of the Founder and what constitutes the spiritual patrimony of the Institute to make it operative in life and in the apostolate. In particular, it is his competence to elect the Superior General and his Councillors, to deal with questions of greater importance, to issue norms that everyone is bound to observe (const. 113)
